Lesson
Goal/s:
3. W.2.1
Students can capitalize geographical names, holidays, special events, titles of
books and stories, and titles of people.
3. R.3.1 Students can identify and
describe literary elements and
devices in literature.
Reflection:
The last lesson went fantastic. We
worked on learning timelines and how they have a beginning, middle, and an end
in it just like a story would. Everything went s well as we thought. The only
thing that we would have changed is when they had made their own timeline that
we would of done that with a step by step process so that everyone would have
kept up.
Objective: Students will: Capitalize book titles
Capitalize
titles of people, e.g. Mr., Mrs., Dr.
Students will: Identify and describe characters,
setting, problem, events and solution within one text
Students
will:
Introduction: (about 5 minutes) (Dakota)
Get
attention:
Students will put together their own
graphic organizer that will have characters, settings, and the basis of the
story they would like to write about. We will give a couple examples of the
organizers so they can choose one that they feel will work best for their
story.
Relate
to past knowledge/ experience:
We will talk about the last lesson we did using timelines and explain
beginning, middle and end of a timeline and how it can be used in a story.
Share
the objective in general terms: Explain why graphic organizers help with
building stories of their own.
Student
Activity: (Darcie)
Students will put together a
graphic organizer to help them put together a story of their own. After the
graphic organizer is made the students then will take the characters and
settings, and etc. and put it all together into a short story. This is going to
be a 5 step process. Only step one which is the graphic organizer, will be done
in this lesson. Step one will take time to brainstorm ideas and come up with a
graphic organizer. After step one is completed we then will move on to step two
which is making an outline. Students
will then keep following all the steps throughout the next few lesson plans
until the story is complete.
The Five Step Process:
1.
Graphic
Organizer
2.
Outline
3.
Rough
Draft
4.
Edit/revise
5.
Publish
Closure: (about
5 minutes) (Brittany)
Review what the
students have accomplished in the past half hour and will explain what is to
come in the next part of the step we are going to complete.
